Online Education

First Week Checklist

  • If you’re still on the waitlist the first day of class, you’ll need instructor permission to take the class.
  • If you’re added from a waitlist, you’ll need to pay in full by the end of the first week.
  • If you want to register for a class that has already started, you will first need permission from your instructor, then drop by the Welcome Center to get it added to your schedule. Late registration for an online class is generally cut off early in the first week.
  • Contact the Distance Ed Office to make sure that you have been added to Brightspace and to your online course shells.

To drop a class log in to MyCCC, select Drop/Withdraw in the Registration section and follow the instructions. Full-term classes (8-12 weeks) must be dropped by the first Friday of the term to receive 100% tuition refund. Shorter classes have sooner deadlines. There are also deadlines for withdrawing from a class or changing to audit/credit (end of the 8th week.)

If your class is online, log in on the first day of the term and check participation requirements. Be sure to review the syllabus carefully so that you understand the expectations of the class and the material that will be covered. If you feel that the class is not a right fit or not what you expected be sure to drop the class right away.

Instructors will be completing administrative drops the first Friday of the term based on student “attendance” and participation in the class.  Your participation may be an introduction post to the class discussion board, submission of a short assignment, or completion of a quiz. If you don’t complete these tasks by Thursday night, the registrar can and will drop you from the class.  If there is some reason why you cannot participate before Thursday, make sure you contact your instructor by email.

Some classes may feel intimidating or overwhelming. Remember there are academic resources to support your success. If you have questions about tutoring, study skills or career planning, ask your instructors or any CCC staff member for a point in the right direction.
