Being in the right classes for your skills is important. Nobody wants to end up in a class that’s too easy – or too hard. CCC has three options to help you and your advisor decide which Math and Writing classes are the best fit for you.
CCC will accept high school and college transcripts and GED results from the last seven years. If your classes are older than seven years, it doesn’t mean they no longer apply! Take a look at option 3, directed self placement for more information.
Please send transcripts to admissions@clatsopcc.edu. For admissions purposes, unofficial transcripts are fine but if you want to transfer college credit from another institution, you will need to request an official transcript later.
ALEKS PPL Math Placement
If you do not have a recent high school or college transcript (within 7 years) or a recent GED score report, you are encouraged to take the ALEKS PPL placement exam. This exam costs $15 and can be taken via aleks.com
When you get to the ALEKS website, you will click on the “Sign Up” button in the top right hand corner, and then put in Class Code: TU4DH-JWWWW
This exam is 30 questions and takes 60-90 minutes to complete. After the assessment, an individualized preparation and learning module is available for students to refresh their knowledge on forgotten topics. Students the could reassess and improve their placement. In some cases doing some studying with the modules and retaking the placement could result in being placed into a higher math class saving you money and time.
Be honest. It is important that the placement is taken seriously and each student gives an honest effort. There is no benefit to cheating on the assessment.
For those who do not wish to take the Accuplacer, or whose credentials are over seven years old or would prefer to discuss their educational background in person, please schedule an appointment by clicking here or calling the Office of Admissions at (503) 338-2417. Please plan to bring what academic records and test results you have to the appointment. We’re very happy to help you find the classes that will work best for you.
Accuplacer Tests are currently offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1pm. You can request an appointment for testing by emailing testingcenter@clatsopcc.edu . The test will cost $20 and can be paid for at the First Stop, next door to the Testing Center. Please let us know as soon as possible if you cannot make your scheduled test! If you do not give at least one days notice that you need to reschedule your Accuplacer test, you will incur another exam fee of $20.
The ACCUPLACER test helps identify your preparedness in writing, reading, and math. ACCUPLACER results are used for academic placement purposes, rather than to deny admission to the college. Students are strongly encouraged to access online sample questions / practice tests before taking the ACCUPLACER. There is also a free ACCUPLACER Study App available from College Board .
The placement assessment consists of three basic skill areas:
- Writing (punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, strategy, organization, and style);
- Reading (ability to read and understand short and extended passages);
- Mathematics (ability to understand and work with whole numbers, decimals, fractions and basic word problems involving arithmetic; an additional algebra assessment may also be provided to determine your appropriate class placement).
The ACCUPLACER is an untimed test, but people typically complete all three subject areas in 2– 3 hours. Students seeking testing accommodations should contact Faith Forster, Student Access Services Coordinator at studentaccess@clatsopcc.edu or (503) 338-2313.
