Technology Fee Increase Set for Summer 2023 Term

Clatsop Community College students will see an increase in the technology fee this summer term. The rate will go from $10 to $14 per credit hour.

This is the first increase in the technology fee in over 12 years. The last time the fee was increased was in the winter term of 2010/2011, when it went from $6 to $10 per credit hour. The fee covers technology support in classrooms, online learning platforms, assists in cyber security upgrades and helps facilitate an enhanced learning experience for students.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, CCC made several upgrades to campus infrastructure to increase students’ access to classroom materials and make distance learning more successful. These upgrades were made possible through the availability of the CARES Act funds. However, in order to keep the technology current and address cybersecurity concerns the college needs to increase this fee. CCC sent a message to the student body to announce the increase. In the message it addressed the burden of increased expenses for students in education. It stated, “We understand that any increase in fees can be a burden on students, and we want to assure you that this decision was not taken lightly. We are committed to providing you with the best possible learning environment, and we believe that the increase in the technology fee is necessary to achieve this goal. We encourage you to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.”
