CCC’s 2023 Outstanding Student Scholars Honored

Clatsop Community College is proud to announce the Outstanding Student Scholars of the All-USA- Academic Team for 2023, Brandi Swiderski and Jennifer Ginn-Bennett, both from Clatskanie, OR. The two finalists will be honored during a trip to Salem for a luncheon with student scholars from other Oregon community colleges on April 21st. On that day, they will be presented to Oregon state legislators and receive medallions and certificates along with an Oregon transfer scholarship. Faculty and staff nominate students whom they believe are most outstanding in terms of excellence in the classroom, general intellectual curiosity, service to the college and their community, and the ability to share their talents with others.

Brandi is graduating from Clatsop Community College this spring with an associates degree in Business Management and plans to transfer to Portland State University to continue studying the business. She started the GED program at the college in 2020 and upon completion immediately jumped in to taking college classes. Brandi is the current President of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) which is the honor society for community colleges across the nation and participates in the TRIO program at the college.

Jennifer will also be graduating this spring with an associate degree in Business, but plans to pursue an English degree at Eastern Oregon University after finding a love for writing and studying communication between writers and readers. Jennifer is the vice-president of PTK at CCC and also participates in the TRIO program at the college.

In addition to being named an Outstanding Student Scholar both Brandi and Jennifer are also semifinalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation National Transfer Scholarship which would cover up to $55,000 per year for them to continue their education at a 4-year university. The selection of the finalists will happen at the end of April.

Pat Keefe, CCC’s Physics Instructor, coordinates the Outstanding Student Scholar selection process, which is sponsored by the Oregon Community College Association. For further information, please contact Pat at 503-338-2434.
