High School Seniors Explore CCC Opportunities

Clatsop Community College welcomes high school seniors to its annual Senior Preview Day, Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 8:15 AM to 1:00 PM.

The day’s activities are designed to help seniors learn about the numerous programs and opportunities available at Clatsop Community College, and find out why a Clatsop Community College education is an affordable option.   

Seniors who register for the event will spend the day on campus, gain valuable information about going to college, and be able to participate in a variety of educational and fun activities.

Local Student Wins Horatio Alger Association Scholarship

The Horatio Alger Association gives away hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship money to students all around the country.  One Astoria High School senior and CCC Upward Bound program participant, Maddie Sutton, is the recipient of a $7,000 scholarship from the Association to attend a four-year postsecondary institution of her choice.

Join “The English Hour” at CCC

The Volunteer Literacy Program at Clatsop Community College announces a new monthly gathering — “The English Hour”.  “The English Hour” provides an opportunity for English language learners, their friends and families, literacy tutors and those interested in meeting some of the newest members of our community to meet, visit and discuss common interests.  All are invited to participate in this unique forum for cultural exchange.

The Clothesline Project: Breaking the Silence of Violence

Clatsop Community College invites the community to share in breaking the silence around gender violence.  CCC will host the Clatsop Clothesline Project kick-off event Wednesday March 4, 2015, 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. in the Towler Hall 3rd floor atrium, 1660 Lexington Avenue, Astoria.

Perspectives on Learning a Second Language Presented in CCC Program

Fernando Rodriguez will present a Thursday Brown Bag Lunch Program entitled “Learning a Second Language: An Approach from My Own Experience” on February 19, 12:00pm – 1:00pm in Columbia Hall Room 219, 1651 Lexington Avenue, Astoria.

Cultural Exchange Program Brings Chinese Educator to Astoria

Zhang Yonghe, principal of the Xi’an University of Science and Technology Affiliated Middle School in China’s Shaanxi Province, recently visited the Clatsop Community College MERTS Campus to learn about workforce training programs. Zhang toured the college’s state-of-the-art fire training facility, observing an ongoing class of high school students. He was also able to see the college’s new ECDIS navigational training system in operation.

Clatsop Community College Selects Patriot Hall Redevelopment Contractor

Clatsop Community College is pleased to announce that it has selected P&C Construction as the Construction Manager/General Contractor for the Patriot Hall Redevelopment Project. Upon completion of contact negotiations, P&C Construction, along with the project architect SRG Partnership, Inc., will move quickly into demolition and construction slated to begin in summer 2015. The Patriot Hall Redevelopment Project is estimated to be complete by fall 2016.
