Clatsop Community College Raises Money For Haiti To Celebrate National TRiO Day 2010

Established by Congress in 1965, the mission of TRiO programs is to help low-income and/or first generation Americans enter college, graduate and participate fully in America’s economic and social life. TRiO programs help students overcome class, social, and cultural barriers to higher education. At Clatsop Community College (CCC), there are three programs for students: Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Student Support Services (called the Plus Program at CCC).

Each year, in honor of National TRiO Day, students around the country find ways to serve their communities. This year, CCC’s TRiO program students have chosen to raise funds to support the Haitian Health Foundation, an organization that is providing healthcare, food, and housing to refugees in and near Jeremie, Haiti—childhood home of one of CCC’s Plus Program students, Jocelene Thomas.

CCC TRiO students invite the public to attend a presentation given by Jocelene and her family about Haitian culture, and about Haiti before and after the recent earthquake. The presentation will be on Friday, March 5th, 2010 at 12:00 noon in Columbia Hall, Room 221. Donations will be accepted at the event and in the Plus Program office located in CCC’s Student Services Center.

For additional information about CCC’s National TRiO Day celebration or any of the three TRiO programs at CCC, please contact Joanie Weatherly at or 503-338-2307.

Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution. Columbia Hall is ADA accessible: for other accommodations call 503- 338-2474; TDD 503- 338-2468.
