CCC Art Center Gallery To Host Annual Juried Student Exhibition In May

The Clatsop Community College Art Center Gallery will host the 2009 Student Exhibition art show from Thursday, May 21st to Monday, June 8th, 2009. There will be an opening reception for the students/artists on Thursday, May 21st at 6:00 p.m. held at the gallery (located at 1653 Jerome Ave. in Astoria, OR). During the reception, cash prizes and award winners will be announced. Both the student exhibition and opening reception events are free and the public is encouraged to attend. This event is ADA accessible.

The CCC Student Exhibition is an annual juried event. It showcases the artistic works of CCC’s art students. Each student is eligible to include for judging up to three pieces from each art class they have been enrolled in during the past year. The Student Exhibition encompasses most disciplines being taught at CCC, including graphic arts, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography and printmaking. This year, the college is pleased to have Dennis Meiners as juror for the student exhibition. He will be in Astoria on Friday, May 15th for the judging of student artwork.

Meiners recently exhibited his work at the CCC Art Center Gallery in January of this year with his wife, Leslie Lee. A native of Walla Walla, Washington, Meiners received a B.A. in Fine Arts from Washington State University in 1973, did research in ceramics at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts in Portland in 1979 and 1980, and has been an Instructor in Ceramics at a number of institutions, including Portland Community College and the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts.

For additional information about the 2009 Student Exhibition art show, please contact Richard Rowland at 503-338-2449.
