COASTER THEATRE WINS STATE ONE ACT FESTIVAL
Coaster Theatre’s production of Ivan Menchell’s THE CEMETERY CLUB won first place at the American Association of Community Theatre’s 2009 Oregon One Act Festival in McMinnville March 13. Actors Paul Dueber, Melissa McLeod, Janie Sexton, Pia Shepherd and Jackie Weber, along with crew members Sue and Stacey Diehl and Craig Shepherd, travel to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to compete at the regionals the weekend of April 17. Coaster Theatre won 7 other awards: outstanding ensemble work to the cast, outstanding supporting performances to Paul Dueber and Janie Sexton, outstanding actress to Pia Shepherd, outstanding director to Julie Akers, outstanding set design to Craig Shepherd and outstanding costume design to Jeanine Fairchild. In Coeur d’Alene they will be competing against theatres from Idaho, Washington, Alaska and California. If Coaster wins the regional competition, it’s on to the nationals in Tacoma, WA in June. We thank Hallmark Inns and Resorts for their sponsorship of the 2008 summer production of THE CEMETERY CLUB. Their generous support helped turn a dream into reality.
To help defray the production’s travel and hotel expenses Coaster Theatre is fundraising! Thursday, April 9, THE CEMETERY CLUB cast and crew perform at Clatsop Community College’s Performing Arts Center at the corner of Franklin and 16th in Astoria at 7:00 p.m. The show is a duplication of the festival performance, including setting the stage, performing the show and clearing the stage, all according to festival rules and all taking place with the allotted 80 minute time frame.
