Increasing regulation of the financial industry is driving demand for well-trained accountants with the communication skills to work as part of a team to improve the competitiveness of organizations and businesses.

Accounting Technician

Students in the Accounting Technician program learn to master the complex nature of a business’ balance sheet, tax filing or credit reconciliation. They also learn the critical communication skills needed to explain this information to colleagues and supervisors. Our students must also understand other parts of a business, and they study marketing, management and human relations. Students also learn the latest in computerized accounting technology.

This associate of applied science degree program is designed for a person currently in or who has completed a Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) approved construction trades apprenticeship and who intends to work beyond the level of journeyman as coordinator, leader, or supervisor in industrial trade and community roles.

This associate of applied science degree program is designed for a person currently in or who has completed a Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) and Oregon Building Codes approved electrical trades apprenticeship and who intends to work beyond the level of journeyman as coordinator, leader, or supervisor in industrial trade and community roles.

This associate of applied science degree program is designed for a person currently in or who has completed a Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) apprenticeship in the following trades and who intends to work beyond the level of journeyman as coordinator, leader, or supervisor in industrial trade and community roles. The trades are boiler/turbine operator, die cast mold, heat and frost insulator, industrial mobile mechanic, machinist, millwright, motor winder, pipefitter, roll turner, instrumentation technician, and welder.

Building from the basic principles of good design, students can pursue more advanced studies in: Drawing, Ceramics, Printmaking, Computer Graphics, Photography, Painting, Sculpture, and Watercolor.

Automotive Technician

Using state of the art equipment, students learn to diagnose, maintain, and repair all aspects of a modern vehicle.  With a strong focus on automotive electronics and engine performance our students are well prepared to work as entry level technicians in dealerships and independent repair facilities. Our instructors combine automotive knowledge with the “tricks of the trade” that help our graduates work more efficiently and better serve their customers.

Biology

Biology classes encourage students to find a better understanding of the life processes and diversity that surrounds them.  Clatsop Community College offers biology classes for those who will be transferring to a four-year institution, students pursuing a Nursing degree and anyone who wants to learn more about the natural world.

Business Management

The business management program combines a foundation of core knowledge in business, technology and accounting with the communication, work ethic and customer service “soft skills” that are in high demand. Our students learn to be effective written and spoken communicators, how to be part of and lead a team, and how to succeed with others. Further, students study key concepts of law and economics that impact every business. Students also combine what they have learned in the classroom with real-world training through cooperative work experience.

Chemistry

A transfer degree in chemistry opens possibilities in Oregon’s growing high-technology sector. From engineering to manufacturing, chemists are in demand across the state. Students interested in chemistry take advantage of Clatsop’s small class sizes and accessible faculty.

Communications

Communications is a growing field that can lead in many directions. An Associate of Arts, Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree connects you to opportunities to continue your education at four-year institutions across Oregon and the nation. At Clatsop Community College, you will learn to be a more effective spoken and written communicator and also study design principles that will make you a more effective visual communicator. Our small classes and excellent faculty foster dialog and expression in the classroom.

Computer Science

Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD)

Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) is a rapidly changing field, with innovations like 3D printing and advanced manufacturing requiring ever more precise drawings and instructions. Students in the CADD program at Clatsop Community College learn the latest in 2D and 3D modeling as well as the skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice careers are some of the most honorable occupations that protect and serve your community. An increasing number of police departments require at least some college education for employment or promotion. The Associate of Applied Science Criminal Justice degree offers you the skills and knowledge to protect the public and offer quality service to your community.

Diagnostic Imaging

Through a partnership with Linn-Benton Community College, Clatsop students may apply for admission to a distance-education program leading to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Diagnostic Imaging. Students take their prerequisites at Clatsop and complete their practicum with a local health care facility.

Economics

Economics is the study of the development, transfer and accumulation of wealth in society. Economists play a vital role in planning and assessing decisions made by businesses and governments. Like mathematicians and scientists, economists have developed models and tools to help them better understand the financial world, and successful economists must also be able to communicate their work to others.

As our economy becomes increasingly focused on technology, the demand for engineers who can solve problems in design, manufacturing, and implementation will continue to increase. Engineers typically specialize in fields such as civil, electrical, chemical, environmental or structural. All of these fields share a similar foundation in science and mathematics, and all can be started at Clatsop Community College.

Fire Science

Whether it is fires in our homes, motor vehicle collisions, medical issues, wildland fires, natural disasters, calls for public assistance, or fire prevention and education, since the 1700s the American Fire Service has been responding to emergencies, and providing aid in our communities.  Clatsop Community College’s Fire Science Department is proud to provide the education to the next generation of America’s Heroes.

Foreign Languages

Students interested in focusing their education on mastering a foreign language can begin at Clatsop. Our students benefit from small classes where conversation and vocabulary are the focus. Clatsop Community College offers classes in Spanish, French, and American Sign Language. Further, students are encouraged to focus on English, writing and speech classes to refine their overall communication skills.

Historic Preservation & Restoration

Astoria is a city of many historic structures. Some have been restored to their original condition while dozens more will need the attention of skilled craftsmen and women with the skills learned in the Historic Preservation & Restoration program at Clatsop Community College.  Our students learn construction and restoration skills in hands-on workshops where they work to preserve structures across our region. They combine this with classes on documenting historic structures, a complicated skill that is a requirement for many restoration jobs.

History

An Associate of Arts, Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree focused on history may include classes on literature, communication, foreign languages, economics and philosophy, all of which are part of the study of history. As one of the foundational liberal arts, a bachelor’s degree in history has many applications including government service, teaching, business and law.

Maritime Science

Employment in the maritime industry is booming to meet the demands of global trade and the energy industry. Clatsop Community College offers United States Coast Guard accredited training combining classroom instruction with at-sea experience on the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean aboard M/V Forerunner.

Mathematics

Medical & Pharmacy (Pre-Professional)

Doctors and pharmacists devote years of their life to acquiring the knowledge needed to diagnose and treat their patients. Both fields remain in high demand, and both require intensive study of science and mathematics. Students interested in medical careers at this level can begin their education at Clatsop Community College prior to transferring to a four-year college to complete their pre-professional education.

Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep healthcare delivery systems running smoothly. They work in reception, scheduling, medical records, insurance billing, and as a medical office secretary. Medical Assistants will also work as a clinical assistant to the physician by preparing patients for examinations, assisting with treatments, collecting and testing specimens and educating patients on health promotion and disease prevention issues.

Nursing - RN

Registered nurses are caring and use knowledge, skills, and problem-solving abilities to help individuals, families, and groups with health needs. RNs plan, care, and work with people to help them become healthier or to regain health after illness or surgery. Nurses teach health practices to clients and other health care providers, and frequently supervise the work of nursing assistants and practical nurses. RNs also administer medications and perform treatments for patients. Nurses work in a variety of settings, including hospitals and long-term care, schools, industry, clinics, and patients’ homes.
