OREGON'S MARITIME TRAINING COLLEGE
Clatsop Community College offers three options for students seeking a degree in Maritime Sciences:
Vessel Operations Associate of Applied Sciences Degree (.pdf, 708kb) is a 90+ credit hour two year degree that students may begin in any term. When combined with the USCG Training Ship designation and two additional classes, students qualify as Able Seaman Special or Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels Upon Near Coastal or Inland Waters (OUPV). Professional licensing is available to students who meet USCG requirements.
Students completing the Vessel Operations Degree may receive the following USCG certifications:
Seamanship One-Year Certificate (.pdf, 696kb) is a shorter path to entry level employment in the maritime industry. Students completing the Seamanship Certificate with enough qualifying sea time may obtain or apply for an Able Seaman Special credential. Those meeting the USCG requirements and having enough deck service time may qualify for a Merchant Mariner’s Credential.
Students completing the Seamanship One-Year Certificate may receive the following USCG certifications:
Seamanship Career Pathway (.pdf, 696kb) is a 17 credit introduction to the maritime industry. Students may begin in any term and may use this Career Pathway Certificate to start their education towards either a Vessel Operations AAS Degree or a Seamanship One-Year Certificate.
