ACCUPLACER Placement Test

The ACCUPLACER is a placement evaluation test that helps identify your preparedness in writing, reading, and math. This is required for admitted students, but ACCUPLACER scores will not be used to deny admission to CCC -- only for placement purposes. The ACCUPLACER test must be completed or waived prior to attending Orientation & Advising.

Students are encouraged to access online sample questions before taking the ACCUPLACER Assessment.  The assessment consists of three basic skill areas:

  • Writing (punctuation, grammar, sentence structure strategy, organization, and style);
  • Reading (ability to read and understand factual material);
  • Mathematics (ability to understand and work with whole numbers, decimals, fractions and basic word problems involving arithmetic. If you have additional mathematics knowledge, an algebra assessment may also be recommended to determine your appropriate class placement).

WAIVING THE ACCUPLACER

If you have previously completed college-level math and writing courses, you may request a ACCUPLACER waiver with proof of course completion with a C grade or above ("pass" also accepted). Submit a transcript (official or unofficial) to our Admissions Office for waiver consideration, after completing your application for admission.  ACCUPLACER or COMPASS placement test scores from external institutions must be no more than two years old. If older, a student must retake the ACCUPLACER to gain admission to CCC.
