Nichole Warwick, Biology
I'm inspired by helping a student push past a block and seeing their eyes light up with understanding.
I love teaching animal behavior, and the nerdy side of me geeks out on physiology, but at the heart of all of this is learning! Science is partially about learning content, but at the core of the subject is the question "Why?" It's that question that got stamped out of us at a younger age that I try to bring back in my classes. Science is about always knowing more, finding the answer to the next mystery, solving the riddle, playing detective, finding out a why and opening it up into a new why. I have a crazy thirst for knowledge and I hope I share that with my students.
My job is constantly challenging. I am always tweaking materials and coming up with new ideas on how I can best help my students master the learning process. The best part of my job is helping students develop the skills to be successful in their next step, but a big component of that is the flexibility to change everything because each person is an individual and comes with their own needs. Being an Instructor challenges me daily and it is never boring.
I think a common student misconception is that Instructors had to have been straight A students; that the subject we teach was easy for us and that is why we are here. I struggled with Math and Science, but I find it so interesting, I just can't quit. The most rewarding part of my job is working with students like I was and helping them overcome their struggles with education to become successful. We don't all learn the same way and finding a method that works for each student is a priority of mine.
