A volunteer literacy tutor training will be held at Clatsop Community College on Saturday, October 9th, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
The program works with hard-to-serve adult students who must overcome many barriers to improved literacy. The training will discuss the “ecology of language acquisition,” strategies to elicit vocabulary from English language learners drawn from GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) training and how tutors can self-monitor their performance with the help of a simple rubric. This workshop is open for anyone interested in the subject, for practicing tutors and for those considering becoming a volunteer with the literacy program. The training will be in the recently renovated Towler Hall, Rm. 208, on Astoria’s Jerome Ave. Campus. Call 503-338-2557 or email Eileen Purcell to sign up.
Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution. Towler Hall is ADA accessible.
