The nomination for Hazel highlighted her dedication and hard work in helping students with issues surrounding financial aid.
This included her recent work to help reduce the default rate for students and CCC. Additionally, Hazel has been central to the successful initiative helping our students ineligible for federal financial aid invest in their future through Individual Development Accounts (IDA's) in concert with CASA. This Program requires intensive, ongoing one-on-one work with students and families. Not only has the IDA Program helped open doors (puerta de oportunidades) for individual students, it has increased ethnic and cultural diversity on campus; a benefit to our entire institution. Finally, as we all know well, Hazel is a strong advocate for the well-being of students and her colleagues; including service as the VP of the Classified Staff Association.
Congratulations to Hazel Martinez!
