Nearly 3,000 students will arrive at Clatsop Community College for the start of fall classes Monday, Sept. 24. Registration remains open for students enrolling in credit and noncredit courses offered at the college’s three campuses, local high schools and online throughout Oregon.
To ensure students are ready for the first day of classes, New Student Orientation is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20.
The event provides students with information on the campus, the classes, and all the resources they can access as a first-time college student. Most importantly, New Student Orientation allows students the opportunity to begin building relationships with faculty, staff and other students. “Close relationships provide one of the greatest advantages in attending a small college,” said Dr. Chris Ousley, Dean of Students and Enrollment Management. “For many students this is the best, first opportunity to tour the campus, meet their instructors, and get to know classmates. It seems like a simple thing, but walking into the right classroom on the first day and seeing familiar faces helps any new student adjust to college.”
According to Dr. Ousley, New Student Orientation is designed to help each student feel confident about their first day of college. “We don’t expect new students to know all the answers, but our orientation helps a student know the right people to ask for help finding those answers,” he said.
All new students admitted to the college are encouraged to register today for New Student Orientation. A complimentary lunch will be provided. Students can sign up online or call the Student Services Center at 503.338.2371 for registration assistance.
