Thanks to generous support from this year's artists, donors and Auction attendees, the Foundation raised more than $107,000 to support CCC and its students.
Inspiring leadership by Senator Betsy Johnson generated an amazing Special Appeal result that will fully fund six projects identified by faculty and staff (see below).
We also greatly appreciate the participation of our student volunteers from PTK and the CCC Art Club: Joe Henthron, Liesl Henthorn, Cordet Gula, Loretta Maxwell, Jason Jones, Sydney Carlson, Emily Carlson, Juanita Dehann, Georges Oates and Kimber Peterson.
NURSING PROGRAM SUPPORT with a lead gift by Columbia Memorial Hospital:
In order to continue graduating Oregon’s top class of nurses and to be a successful partner in the Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education (OCNE), CCC’s nursing skills lab requires high fidelity simulation mannequins in excellent working order and other equipment that allow students to replicate real-life scenarios and learning activities.
AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM SUPPORT
The CCC automotive department strives to offer as many real-world training opportunities as possible. A gap in training in diesel systems was identified by our industry advisory committee. Funds will purchase a GM 6.5L Diesel ECM training unit with coursework that allows study and practice related to the diesel fuel injection system. The training unit can be used for diagnostic procedures and practice as if performed on a vehicle.
MARITIME PROGRAM SUPPORT
The training vessel M/V Forerunner represents a major capital investment and is a key element of this unique program at Oregon’s Maritime Training College. As a steel vessel, the vessel needs protection against electrolysis that causes corrosion problems with the hull and other machinery. Funds will purchase an additional anode to raise the level of corrosion protection
ART CENTER GALLERY SUPPORT
The CCC Art Center Gallery is well-known for unique and regionally-significant art exhibitions, for example the annual Au Naturel show and exhibits that bring international artists to the region such as the Maori exhibit that will open on May 7. Funds will provide portable display walls that will expand the exhibition capability of the Gallery and allow gallery configurations that better accommodate a variety of media. The addition of moveable walls will also enhance student critique and comparative analysis.
FIRE PROGRAM SUPPORT
CCC recently received a fire engine that supports realistic training exercises. Several upgrades are required to enhance the use of this equipment. A headphone system will not only increase student safety but also will allow for effective communication between students and instructors. The addition of a generator will make the engine usable during night classes and support training exercises using scene lighting.
Students in the Literacy program use laptops to access language programs, use the internet for study, practice and research, and develop skills using email and word processing. In addition placement and assessment testing is now online. Laptops are loaned out to students and tutors as needed as well as used in the office for testing. We also propose to enhance the Seaside classroom to allow enhanced lesson presentations and to stream video for classroom learning. Funds will purchase laptops, a projector and related equipment.
Additional available funds will be allocated to scholarship and program support in consultation with the CCC President and Board of Directors throughout the year.
