Economics is the study of the development, transfer and accumulation of wealth in society. Economists play a vital role in planning and assessing decisions made by businesses and governments. Like mathematicians and scientists, economists have developed models and tools to help them better understand the financial world, and successful economists must also be able to communicate their work to others.

Students interested in a career in economics can take the first steps at Clatsop Community College. Working with an advisor, they can develop an educational plan within the Associate of Arts, Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree that combines economics, communication, a high level of mathematics and introductory courses on business and accounting.
