Armin Mühsam will conduct a workshop entitled “Figure Drawing Matters” from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
Mr. Mühsam is an Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. The workshop will be held in the Drawing and Painting Studio of the CCC Art Center.
Originally from Romania and educated in Germany as well as in the U.S., Mr. Mühsam has been teaching at Northwest Missouri State University for over a decade. Selected from among hundreds of submissions to exhibit in the Au Naturel competition for three consecutive years, his ink drawing entitled Erin Seated is currently on display in this year’s show, and will be on view in the CCC Art Center Gallery through April 14th. As an art educator, Mühsam believes in the importance of the study of the human form as means to develop students' ability to "learn how to see," which increases visual awareness, "an indispensable requirement for all further artistic endeavors, regardless of the medium and discipline."
Mr. Mühsam observes that most people approach the figure through drawing processes, but tend to think of drawing only as mark-making on paper. This workshop will demonstrate more options and encourage the participants to explore new pictorial possibilities in technically more sophisticated manners. Participants will be introduced to drawing the life model on a variety of supports, including etching plates.
The workshop will be free to students enrolled in spring term credit courses at CCC, and open to the public for a $20.00 per person fee. Enrollment is limited, so please email Kristin Shauck or call 503-338-2472 for more information and a materials list.
