Upeard Bound Summer Academy students deliver job search workshop and present this summer's projects.
A free job search workshop will be held on Monday, July 30 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Astoria Worksource Office, 450 Marine Drive, Suite 110. The workshop will be conducted by students from Clatsop Community College‘s Upward Bound Summer Academy.
The purpose of the workshop is to help individuals successfully find the job they want. Participants will learn how to present themselves at and dress appropriately for job interviews and avoid common mistakes that people tend to make in the interviews. Attendees will also be given tips on writing a resume.
In addition, students in the Upward Bound Summer Academy at Clatsop Community College will be conducting their project presentations on Thursday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Performing Arts Center (PAC), 588 16th Street, Astoria. This event, free to the public, enables the students to make formal presentations on what they accomplished in each of four projects completed during the Academy.
The four projects this year were: (1) “Shakespeare’s Women” in which students preformed scenes from Shakespearean plays, (2) interpretative walks of selected areas of the Columbia River estuary, (3) redevelopment of habitat for the Oregon Silverspot Butterfly, and (4) workshops for career building. Students in the Academy also attended afternoon core classes that included math, science, foreign language and writing.
Upward Bound is a federally funded educational outreach program that motivates and supports high school students in preparing for college. In school year 2012-13 the Upward Bound Program will serve 71 area high school students from Astoria, Seaside and Warrenton.
