On November 12, there will be orientation training for new volunteer literacy tutors and for those who recently started working with the program.
A profile of the literacy program, its participants and the definition of basic literacy skills will be presented. We will discuss barriers to literacy, how we can help our students overcome them and how adults differ from child learners. The agenda will include a look at the characteristics of adult learners, why they come to our program and where and how we all need literacy in our lives. All are invited to attend and there is no obligation to volunteer. The training will be in the CCC Library Conference Room from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Please call ahead to reserve a seat. Call 503-338-2557 or email Eileen Purcell to sign up.
