Clatsop Community College announces the creation of a new scholarship opportunity for 2012 high school or GED graduates to begin their studies at CCC this summer.
Through a generous contribution from the Clatsop Community College Foundation, CCC has established the Jump Start Scholarship. Twenty-six eligible students will each receive an award of $300, roughly the equivalent of tuition for a three credit class.
To be eligible to receive this award, students must register for at least six credits in Summer Term that begins June 25. Registration is open now through July 5.
Department of Education research documents that students who complete at least 30 credits in their first year, who do not take time off before starting college and who use summer terms to balance their class loads have a higher rate of college persistence and completion.
“This exciting scholarship will provide the opportunity for new students at CCC to make real progress, increasing the likelihood of certificate or degree completion, and helping bridge the gap left by diminishing federal funding for student aid,” says CCC Recruitment Coordinator Amy Magnussen.
