Clatsop Community College has joined the 2012 One Shirt National Collegiate Clothing Challenge.
During Earth Week, April 16-21, students will collect new and gently used clothing to be donated to the non-profit organization, The NetShed, at Astoria High School.
The NetShed gives away about 100 items of clothing a day to students in need. Formal boys’ wear is in especially high demand.
Clothing drop-off bins will be located on the CCC main campus in Towler Hall, Columbia Hall, and the Student Services Center. Drop-off bins will also be located at TLC Federal Credit Union, Bank of Astoria, and ABECO locations in Astoria.
The OneShirt Challenge is an activity of the CCC Associated Student Government to promote textile recycling for the good of the planet. The Challenge reduces landfill, saves water and saves gasoline, as well as celebrating Earth Week. Last year, student groups at nearly 100 colleges and universities across the country collected over 32,000 pounds of clothing for local charities. The OneShirt Challenge is counted towards Earth Day Network’s MobilizeU Billion Acts of Green to be shared with world leaders at the Rio+20 Summit in
