Clatsop Community College and the Fort George Brewery announce the first program of the 2013/2014 Ales & Ideas education series. Dr. Lawrence Galizio, President of Clatsop Community College, will present a talk entitled, “Bridging the Higher Education Divide” at 7:00pm, Thursday September 26 at the Fort George Lovell Showroom.
Dr. Galizio will discuss the results of the recently published study by The Century Foundation focused on increasing economic and racial stratification of U.S. higher education. With community colleges often the only realistic postsecondary option for low-income students, the underinvestment in these institutions is increasing inequality. The Century Foundation Report recommends changes such as adequacy-based funding for higher education and guaranteed transfer policies to help alleviate challenges faced by low-income students.
Please join Dr. Galizio for an engaging evening of inquiry into this important topic that affects our entire community. The Fort George Lovell Showroom is located at 14th and Duane in Astoria. Doors open at 6:00 pm, and the program begins at 7:00pm. Seasonal beers on tap, food and other beverages are available for purchase. Minors are welcome.
Dr. Galizio attended Santa Barbara City College and the University of California at Santa Barbara before earning his undergraduate degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from UC Berkeley. He earned his Master's Degree in Communication Studies from San Francisco State University, and his Ph.D. from the School of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University.
