Community Responds: CCC Foundation Auction Sets a New Record

The 2014 Clatsop Community College Foundation Arts & Experience Dinner and Auction demonstrated record support for higher education within Clatsop County and SW Washington with receipts of more than $100,500 to support the programs and students of CCC.

More than 100 auction offerings were donated by local and regional artists, organizations and businesses, and event sponsorships were received from 46 individuals and businesses. Pacific Power returned as the Signature Sponsor for the third consecutive year, and Oregon Health & Science University, The Lehman Family Trust, Oregon LNG and The Van Dusen Family served as Presenting Sponsors.

A few highlights of action during the live auction portion of the evening included the following winning bids: Bluebird by Charles Schweigert for $750; a baritone ukulele for $700; Dancing Darkeyes by Reita E’Laine for $2,000; a four-course dinner by Astoria Golf & Country Club Executive Chef Gehrett Billinger for $500; and Alalã & Niu decorative teapot by Richard Rowland for $550.

In addition to raising general support that will be made available to the College in consultation with President Lawrence Galizio, the event raised almost $30,000 that will support five specific projects requested by CCC faculty and staff as follows:

  • Equipment for Biology & Chemistry programs: approximately $16,000
  • Equipment for Physical Education program: approximately $3,300
  • Equipment supporting recruitment: approximately $5,200
  • Kiln shelving for Art department: approximately $870
  • Equipment & tools for Fire Science program: approximately $4,500

“The CCC Foundation is truly grateful for the outstanding support from our community for Arts & Experience. Our board, especially the auction committee, worked hard to provide a unique and memorable event, and its success exceeded our expectations. We appreciate all the wonderful art and experiences that were donated, and those who attended the event were tremendously generous as well,” says CCC Foundation Board Chair Pat Lehman.
