Clatsop Community College announces that it has received an extension of its CASE (Credential, Acceleration, and Support for Employment) grant through July 15, 2015. The grant is funded by the United States Department of Labor, and is part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) initiative. CCC is participating as part of a consortium composed of all Oregon community colleges, the Oregon Employment Department, employers and community partners. Over the term of the grant, CCC will receive $936,668 to support workforce-related initiatives.
The CASE grant funds strategies that include using Career Coaches to reduce barriers so that students enroll and complete a credential as quickly as possible. Students who are currently enrolled in the CASE grant program also receive assistance in their search to secure employment in high demand occupations. Out of 230 enrolled, 143 students have completed their degree or certificate program.
CCC is one of only four Oregon community colleges receiving the full extension period, and will use the extension to assist and support currently enrolled CASE students and students beginning certificate programs in Fall term 2014 to complete their educational programs and gain employment. Additionally, the CASE grant staff will work closely with workforce partners to provide the support for students seeking less than one year certificates as a pathway to high demand jobs.
