Clothesline Project Demonstration to End Domestic Violence Returns to CCC

The students of the Women & Social Action course at Clatsop Community College (CCC) have begun preparation for their annual demonstration “The Clothesline Project” and invite the participation of all community members.

Women and men of our North Coast community can participate by painting a t-shirt with art that expresses their views about domestic violence.  Shirt painting will take place on February 13th and 14th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the L.I.T. room on the second floor of Alder Hall, 1775 Lexington Avenue, Astoria, on the CCC main campus.  Shirts, paint, and paintbrushes will be provided.  We encourage all levels of artistic ability to participate.

The shirts will be displayed in the 3rd Floor Commons of Towler Hall, 1660 Lexington Avenue, Astoria, from February 20 to March 12, 2013.  The community is invited to attend an opening celebration for the display on February 20th at 6:00pm.  Tillamook County author Nancy Slavin is the 2013 guest speaker. Refreshments will be provided by Astoria Coffee Bar, Blue Scorcher Bakery, and others.

Started in Cape Cod in 1990 after a woman in that community was murdered by her male partner, The Clothesline Project has become a national demonstration to raise awareness about and fight to end domestic violence.
