The 2011 CCC Student Art Show will be on display at the CCC Art Center Gallery from Thursday, April 21 through Friday, May 12.
The Student Art Show showcases the artistic talents of CCC's Art Students. An opening reception for the students/artists is scheduled for Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the gallery (located at 1653 Jerome Ave. in Astoria, OR). During the reception, cash prizes and award winners will be announced. Music will be provided by Dave Drury. Both the show and opening reception are free and the public is encouraged to attend. The gallery is ADA Accessible.
The CCC Student Art Show is an annual juried event. Each student is eligible to include a total of five pieces from the art classes (up to three pieces from each) they have been enrolled in during the past year. The show encompasses most disciplines being taught at CCC, including graphic arts, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography and printmaking. Senior Professor Jan Shield of Pacific University is this year’s 3D juror. He has taught and made 2D and 3D art at the university since 1971 and served as the Director of Exhibits there from 1971-2005. The 2D juror for this year’s show is Bill Ittmann. He has served as the CCC Art Center Gallery Director and is a very knowledgeable and articulate art historian. Both jurors will be attending the reception.
Of particular interest is the President’s Choice Award. The College’s President makes the selection. As CCC’s newest president, this will be Larry Galizio’s first opportunity to select a piece of work for this honor and a way for him to begin to integrate into the Art Program represented by the student’s work.
