The Latino Club of Clatsop Community College visited with the Assistance League of the Columbia Pacific (ALCP) on Thursday, February 7. Students from the college club presented the organization with a $100 check to support the League’s various activities, such as helping kids in need with new clothing, buying backpacks and other items for foster children, and providing prom dresses to high school girls. Latino Club representatives included Jonathan Ortiz, Silviano Lopez, Rolando Martinez, and Hazel Martinez, a CCC staff member.
In presenting their donation, Club member Jonathan Ortiz commented, “Latino Club members appreciated what the League was doing to assist children in our community and that they wanted to contribute to these efforts.”
The Latino Club’s stated goal is to “form a community that provides personal, social, cultural and academic support to Latino students at Clatsop Community College. The Latino Club seeks to be actively involved in campus and the local community while fostering the development of leadership skills.” Students do a variety of projects throughout the year, including visiting local high schools, conducting fundraisers, and providing support and scholarship opportunities to Latino students at CCC.
