Dr. Lawrence Galizio, President of Clatsop Community College, and Dr. Donald Easton-Brooks, Dean of the Eastern Oregon University (EOU) School of Business, formally signed the cooperative agreement establishing a joint program that permits students to earn an Associate of Science-Oregon Transfer (ASOT) degree from Clatsop and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from EOU while remaining on the CCC campus. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 21 in Columbia Hall on the CCC campus.
This new educational opportunity will begin in Fall Term 2014. Following completion of an ASOT degree, participating students will be able to transfer 120 credits from CCC into the EOU Bachelor’s degree program. Students will continue in upper division classes offered by EOU on the CCC campus on Fridays and Saturdays.
About 40 people attended the signing ceremony, including Representative Debbie Boone and Skip Hauke, Executive Director of the Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce; CCC faculty, staff, and students; and members of the community. Additional EOU representatives present at the ceremony included Dr. Laurie Yates, EOU Business faculty member, and Tim Weatherly, EOU program advisor who maintains an office on the CCC main campus. CCC was represented by Dr. Donna Larson, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs; Kristen Wilkin, Dean of Workforce and Community Education; Tommie Redwine, CCC Business faculty, and members of the CCC Business Advisory Committee.
Clatsop Community College views this new program as an enormous benefit to students who are unable to leave the local area, and hopes it will serve as the catalyst for other partnerships and programs with baccalaureate degree-granting institutions to further expand local educational offerings.
