Ales and Ideas: Fire Science Instructor Tackles Burning Issue of Wildfires

Clatsop Community College announces May’s speaker for the Ales and Ideas Lecture Series, Kurt Donaldson, Fire Science Instructor, who will be addressing the threat of wildfires in our community and region. The presentation will be in the Lovell Showroom at Fort George Brewery in Astoria, Oregon on Thursday, May 5th at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6 pm. The Ales and Ideas Lectures are free events. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Minors are welcome. 

Donaldson’s lecture, “Fires in Our Forests: A Look at the Past, Present, and Future of Our Wildfire Problem,” will address America's wildfire threat. Where has it come from? What is happening now? What may the future hold?

Kurt Donaldson has over twenty years in as a firefighter and educator. He is the full time Fire Science Instructor for Clatsop Community College, a volunteer Captain at the Knappa Fire District, and fights wildland fires during the summer as a Forest Officer for the Oregon Department of Forestry. Before his time at Clatsop, Kurt worked for over ten years as a high school teacher in the Knappa School District instructing classes such as Fire Science, Government, History, Economics, and Geography. Kurt earned a BS and MS in Education from Western Oregon University.
