AAUW Recognizes Outstanding Graduating Women of Clatsop Community College

The Astoria Branch of the American Association of University Women is pleased to announce its 2017 scholarship winners.


Haley Werst of Astoria was awarded $1800.  She recently completed her associate transfer degree at Clatsop Community College, including the coursework for the CCC honors program, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the Cosplay Club, and the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) robotics team.  Werst will transfer to Portland State University in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in film studies. 


Maritza Casarrubias was awarded $1500.  She recently completed her associate transfer degree at Clatsop Community College, is president of the Latin Dance Club, and helps mentor and tutor peers in anatomy and physiology.  Casarrubias also volunteers in local schools to educate children about oral hygiene and care.  She was accepted into the CCC nursing program this fall. 


AAUW scholarship recipients must have demonstrated academic excellence at the community college level and be accepted into a baccalaureate or comparable education program beyond community college.  Founded in 1881, AAUW strives to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
