Disability Services
Our Disabilities Specialist and Section 504 Coordinator can help you with the registration process, access to programs, reasonable accommodations under federal law, and other needs. Our philosophy is to maximize your independence and self-reliance while making a variety of support services available to help you achieve your educational and vocational goals. Disability Services are available to students with physical, learning, and/or psychiatric disabilities.
Students with a disability, who are in need of accommodations to fully access all campus opportunities, or who are in need of an academic adjustment, need to contact the Disability Specialist to make arrangements as early as possible for each Term.
Students must provide documentation of disability by a
licensed psychologist, medical doctor, or other professional.
A recent (past three years) Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Section 504 plan, may provide acceptable documentation of services that have been effective.
Student receiving authorizations for disability accommodations and academic adjustments, must continue to meet all of the achievement requirements for coursework, as outlined in course syllabi.
Services include:
Campus orientation to student services and campus supports
Registration and course scheduling assistance
Academic advisement for initial coursework
Authorizations for campus accommodations and academic adjustments
Test-taking facilitation for extended time or individual testing
Consultations with off-campus service providers
Student advocacy for ensuring accommodations are provided
Reasonable classroom accommodations
Access to assistive technology
Consultations and collaborations with Instructors
Students with disability documentation that are on file with the Disability Services office are also eligible to apply for the Trio/Plus Program for admitted, degree-seeking students.
Students with disabilities are also encouraged to utilize additional campus supports such as the Math Assistance Center (MAC) T 211, Writing Lab Columbia Hall 115 B, assigned Faculty and Staff Academic Advisors, Career Center Services in T 312, Plus Program if eligible, and other campus resources.
