CCC President Begins Tenure by Establishing New Scholarship

On Tuesday evening, the Clatsop Community College Board welcomed Dr. Larry Galizio to his first Board meeting as CCC President. In response, Dr. Galizio not only thanked the Board for the opportunity to serve as CCC President, but also announced that one of his first acts was to establish the Galizio Family Scholarship with an initial $1000 pledge to CCC Foundation.

“I am deeply committed to helping students, both through my service as President, and through personal philanthropy. I am honored to join with other Clatsop County residents and businesses that support our students through donations to CCC Foundation, and hope that my family’s contribution will encourage them to continue their support and inspire others to join them. I can imagine a time when, with everyone’s support, every student in Clatsop County who wants to go to college will be able to do so. A scholarship contribution is quite simply an investment in the future of our county. And I understand that this year, again, the Miller Family Foundation will match new contributions for CCC scholarships dollar-for-dollar. Where else could you find an investment that immediately doubles in value?”

The Galizio Family Scholarship will be awarded annually to a CCC student who is the first in his or her family to attend college.

The Miller Family Foundation has announced that it will, for a third and final year, match new contributions for scholarships to Oregon’s community colleges. Donations for scholarships to CCC Foundation from individuals, organizations and estates during the past two years have qualified for over $100,000 total in matching funds from the Miller Family Foundation. To earn the maximum amount available to CCC this coming year, CCC Foundation will need $50,000 in new scholarship contributions from local individuals and organizations.

“President Galizio’s contribution is a great beginning to help us meet the Miller scholarship challenge,” said Steve Ferber, CCC Foundation Board member who accepted Galizio’s pledge on Tuesday evening. “We hope everyone who cares about the future of our youth and the future of Clatsop County will join him in helping us grow our scholarship fund for CCC students by making a contribution to CCC Foundation.”

Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution.
