Clatsop Community College Honors Veterans and Service Members At Reception; Provides Tuition To Family Members of Oregon Fallen Service Members

In Honor of Veteran’s Day and the veterans and service members that serve our community, Clatsop Community College (CCC) will host a free afternoon reception open to all veterans, service members and their families on Monday, November 9th, 2009 from 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the CCC Patriot Hall Gym (ADA accessibility is located at the 16th Street Gym entrance. Contact ADA Coordinator Jim Holen at 503-338-2474; TDD 503-338-2468, for further assistance). The Camp Rilea Color Guard will present a flag ceremony at 12:00 Noon and a voluntary group photo of veterans and service members in attendance will follow. CCC President Greg Hamann, CCC Associated Student Government President Aleesha Nedd, and VA Employment Representative Patrick Preston will address those attending. All CCC students, staff, and interested community members are invited to attend.

Additionally, CCC strives to honor the public service of veterans and all public service members, and assist immediate families of fallen Oregon Service Members by providing free CCC tuition to the spouse and children (including adoptive and step-children) of United States Military, Public Safety Personnel, and National Disaster Relief and Service Personnel who die, or have become 100% disabled, in connection to their service, and who listed Oregon as their permanent residence at the time of death or determination of 100% disability. Public Safety Personnel include Law Enforcement and Corrections Officers, Firefighters, and Emergency Responders. National Disaster Relief and Service Personnel include members of the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, VISTA, American Red Cross, FEMA, and other similar agencies. The purpose of this tuition waiver is to honor the public service of these individuals, and to help provide assistance to the immediate families of these fallen Oregon individuals in earning a college associate degree.
