From: Brenda Penner Clatsop Community College Clatsop Community College's Nursing Program Celebrates Its 25th Class The Elks Ballroom hosted the 25th graduation celebration of the Nursing program at Clatsop Community College. The college has graduated 425 nurses since the program’s first class graduated in 1985. Large posters covered the walls of the ballroom noting all graduates by class. There were plenty of whoops and cries of celebration by the 20 graduates of the Class of 2009 and there was hardly a dry eye in the house by the time all class members received their CCC nursing pin. Gone are the days when students receive nursing school caps, but the tradition of receiving a nursing school pin remains. Each student chose who would “pin” him or her. Jo Black, faculty, could hardly keep her cool through some of the heartfelt thank-yous and recognitions that each student wrote for her individual pinning. Noted entries were Melinda Cashion who cried as she was pinned by her grandmother, a retired nurse; Jeff Trobaugh who was pinned by his father, retired Lt. General Trobaugh who also gave him one of his stars; and Emilie Hawley from Tillamook who was pinned by her husband and five children. Jaime Helle of Seaside and Heather Clark of Tillamook both received Clinical Excellence Awards from the nursing faculty. Nurses at Clatsop Community College complete 95 credits for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing. Most students spend 1-2 years completing pre-requisites and a CNA class before being admitted to the school for their nursing education. Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution.
