Celebrate Albert Einstein’s Birthday With A Slice Of Pi! |
From: Caitlin Wright Clatsop Community College Celebrate Albert Einstein’s Birthday With A Slice Of Pi! Clatsop Community College (CCC) will celebrate notable physicist Albert Einstein’s birthday and the mystery of the mathematical constant Pi (π) on Friday, March 13th, 2009 at CCC’s Jerome Campus (Towler Hall, Rm. 200) from 1:59 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Pi is everywhere around us; it is the ratio of any circle’s circumference to the length of its diameter. The date of the celebration almost mimics the first eight digits of Pi, which are 3.1415926. Thus, Pi Day is on March 13th (3/13), begins at 1:59 p.m. and goes to 6:00 p.m. To celebrate Einstein’s birthday and wonderful Pi, CCC has invited none other than Pi’s famous relative—delicious Pie—to the festivities! There will be math games, Pi and other math walks, face painting, Pi prizes and more. Please join us and enjoy a slice of pie as we celebrate the mysteries of Pi. Admission is free! This event is appetizing for all ages and families are encouraged to attend (children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult). For additional information about this fun event or if you have questions about the mysteries of Pi, contact TJ Lackner, CCC Mathematics Instructor, at 503-338-2452 or tlackner@clatsopcc.edu.
