ACADEMIC ADVISING

Academic Advisors are assigned to all students seeking a degree or certificate.
If you wish to request a new advisor, or need to change your declared degree/program of study, you must contact the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s office can also provide you with degree program checklists, copies of your placement test(s), blank registration forms, Clatsop Community College catalogs, term schedule of classes and other information necessary to help you plan for a successful degree program.

How Can My Advisor Help Me?
At Clatsop Community College, full-time faculty and staff serve as academic advisors in their particular area(s) of expertise. Your advisor is assigned by matching your degree program/major with the faculty or staff member that possesses experience and knowledge in the same area. Even if you are currently undecided about your future degree program/major, there are advisors available that not only understand your situation--but can help you explore all your options.
The primary purpose of your academic advisor is to work with you in selecting appropriate courses each term that meet your degree program requirements and include new challenges and interests.
Your advisor can also:

  • Interpret your assessment results
  • Discuss the importance of completing prerequisites before selecting college-level courses
  • Help in locating college and/or community support resources that you may need
  • Assist you in understanding college policies and procedures
  • Help you seek information regarding transferring to a university/college
  • Help you understand course content and requirements
  • Interpret the college schedule and catalog
  • Discuss career options and opportunities
  • Answer questions and monitor your progress towards meeting degree requirements
  • Help you complete/review your graduation petition
  • Inform you concerning registration dates, add/drop policies, etc.

All faculty advisors have scheduled office hours posted on their doors. The Registrar’s office also has a listing of faculty office hours.
