2.  Open Boat!  Fisher poet Dave Densmore welcomes visitors to his fishing boat, the Cold Stream.  Pier 39

9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
1.  From the Water to the Page: new tools for telling your sea stories.  Erin Fristad leads a fast-paced generative workshop designed to provide a new set of tools for your writer’s toolbox. Through a variety of writing exercises, work towards discovering the best way to tell your story.  There will be an opportunity to share your writing and receive feedback from the group. All writing levels welcome. Come prepared to write!  Baked Alaska restaurant provides coffee.  Baked Alaska Expedition Room
2. History of Salmon Nation and the Salmon Nation Artists’ Project.  Nonprofit Ecotrust has done pioneering work educating the public about risks of farmed fish.  Presenter is Ecotrust intern Sara Lozito.  CRMM Kern Room

3. Update on
Pebble Mine, Alaska. Bristol Bay Alaska is home to the world's largest sockeye salmon run, and soon may also be home to one of the world's largest open-pit gold mines.  Norm Van Vactor, of Snopac Seafoods, Seattle, examines the magnitude and the wisdom of the astonishing Pebble Mine proposal.  CRMM Ford Room

11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
1.  Song Writing for Fishers.  To John Palmes, music is about as basic as breathing and he's pretty sure anyone can do it.  The guy who brought us "Addicted to Pink" about how humpies love to be caught if the color of the lure is right, leads this song-writing workshop.  Come to write. Baked Alaska restaurant provides coffee. Baked Alaska Expedition Room
2. History of the Columbia River Packers Association.  Presented by Irene Martin, author of the forthcoming book, The Flight of Bumble Bee, which traces the history of Astoria’s most famous cannery.  Irene is the acknowledged authority on the history of Columbia River Fisheries. CRMM Kern Room
3. Ray Troll Art.  Ketchikan artist Ray Troll has for decades captured the frantic, the exhausted, the celebratory imagination of commercial fishing men and women.  Hardly a pilothouse exists that hasn't got a postcard replica of his work thumb-tacked to the wall somewhere.  Ray shows slides and discusses his work and his new CD.
