FisherPoets Gathering
Watch for 16th FisherPoets Gathering on Feb. 22 to 24, 2013
15th FisherPoets Gathering: Feb. 24, 25 & 26, 2012
2-27-12, Astoria Oregon. Last music stands are back in storage at the College, and FPG is folded up for another year. We have a page for Thanks, please look, but here's our spontaneous gratitude too.
Thanks to ALL who came out, listened, read, recited, sang, told stories, hung and projected images on walls and screens, and let us hear their very own observations and experiences, oftentimes opening their hearts and baring their souls.
Thanks to all who donated large and small, bid and bought, cooked and carried food and drink, adjusted lights and amps, and the eight owners or directors who made their venues available, not in every case for profit.
Thanks to the many FPG fans who sat at doors with buttons and programs, and those who stood on the cold floor to sell fisherpoets' books, DVDs, CDs and art, and oversee the auction.
And why not the intrepid little committee – who organized the program, put heads together to create new ideas and events, gathered up goods and services to auction off, guided the news media along fruitful paths, typed and designed and read the program proof and still left the authenticity of mistakes, got everything printed at Clatsop CC, kept "social media" presence and this website going, made onsite runs for lights and change, schlepped chairs, tables and music stands, kept track of money and goods - and next, with the help of CCC, gets bills paid, the donors formally thanked, and the modest travel stipends sent to the fisherpoets from the 2012 'take.'
Thanks to Clatsop Community College for its 15th year of vital support with lots of the above to get FPG organized and closed up once again.
Look for FPG 2013 on Feb. 22, 23 & 24, and also spinoff events as fisherpoets read around the country, maybe near you.
The FisherPoets Gathering has become an Astoria tradition, bringing men and women tied to the fishing industry together to share original poems, stories, songs, memoirs, essays and art in celebration of the work, its people and their concerns.

(See "Special Events" for the 2012 challenge rules)
Cod Cheeks & Fried Baloney
A Yankee once fetched up in old Newfoundland
Where the beach is grey rock instead of white sand
Where rain falls in April and snow falls in May
And dories and islanders cover the bay
Where oldtimers cringe at the scent of a phony
And breakfast is perfumed with frying baloney
* * * * *
Where fiddlers always play the tune and dancers clog the beat
And cod cheeks make the gourmet dish and squid inks spice the meat
The Yankee thought the Newfies crude, but they said "Well me b'y
"Ye may think that we 'aves no fun, but eh - work is our j'y!"
