Environmental Science
The Environmental Science Program(ESP) at Clatsop Community College (CCC), while in its infancy, offers opportunities and resources unusual for most lower division students, especially for those exploring the possibilities of working in natural resources and both field and policy related environmentally studies. The ESP is closely tied to our biology program, but has links to General Science, especially GS 105, Meteorology, and GS 161, Oregon Field Biology. All of our ESP courses include inquiry-based labs, and focus on field projects. As well, all of our ESP courses apply to the AAOT and will transfer to nearly all other colleges and universities.

Students on board the Forerunner.
Students in our ESP
- conduct studies on board the College's research boat, the Forerunner, in local forests, and on our beaches and intertidal ecosystems,
- partner with local conservation groups such as Sea Turtles Forever, a local and Costa Rican based group focusing on sea turtle conservation and problems associated with plastics and pollution,
- have interned with a number of governmental local agencies ranging from NOAA fisheries to CREST, an agency devoted to work with the lower Columbia River and its estuary,
- work in the college's Living Machine, a state of the art water purification system,
- build comradery and self confidence.
