Industrial & Manufacturing Technology

Printable version

The thirty-thousand square-foot, Industrial & Manufacturing Technology Center was opened for classes in January of 1998. The facility provides ample and flexible space essential to support College's Industrial & Manufacturing Technologies Department and it's related training components, as well as providing expansion capabilities for future program development.

A sampling of the departmentâs diversified Industrial-related training courses include:

  • Computer-Aided Drafting and Design
  • Welding and Fabrication Curriculum utilizing the American Welding Society's nationwide skills standards
  • Comprehensive Automotive Curriculum including engine, suspension, brakes, HVAC and other courses
  • Historic Preservation and Restoration
  • Sustainable Energy Tech
  • Truck Driving

The Industrial and Manufacturing Technology Center, in conjunction with the Maritime Sciences Department, provides students with a virtual "supermarket" of integrated technical training opportunities on the MERTS campus. Additionally, this new facility provides sophisticated telecommunications links, staging areas and the fabrication/repair support necessary to address the needs of various research projects conducted in the regional area.

Unique Instructional Delivery:
Many classes and degree programs at the MERTS campus utilize a "modularized open entry/open exit" education delivery approach. Training in those areas is delivered in a flexible format, typically allowing students to start any time and choose their own attendance schedules. The programs are self-paced and guided by skilled instructors, emphasizing hands-on learning. This proven delivery method allows students and employers alike to coordinate a training schedule to acquire new or advanced skills while continuing to work at their present positions.
