The Princess And The Tree At Clatsop Community College |
From: Caitlin Wright Clatsop Community College The Princess And The Tree At Clatsop Community College When the Astoria Regatta and Rose Festival Princesses arrive at Clatsop Community College (CCC) next Tuesday, they won’t find peas under mattresses. Instead, the princesses will find five red, Japanese Bloodgood Maples ready for planting. CCC welcomes the princesses and invites the public to come and watch the planting. The princesses will be on campus Tuesday, May 18th at 3:45 p.m. to help plant the trees in front of the College’s newly finished Columbia Hall. In total, there will be five trees planted on Tuesday. Three of the trees are on their way to the College through a donation from Pacific Power. Earlier this year, Pacific Power donated $10,000 to the Astoria Bicentennial Committee for the purchase of 200 trees in honor of Astoria’s 200th birthday. To assist in placing the trees, a Bicentennial Tree Committee (made up of Linda Brim, Brim's Farm & Garden; Luke Colvin, ArborCare Specialists; Mike Barnes, Astoria City Forester; Paulette McCoy, Astoria Bicentennial Committee; Kristin Ramstad, Community Assistance Forester with Oregon Dept. of Forestry; Sheila Holden, Pacific Power; and Arline Lamear, as Chairperson) was created to find locations for the trees. The committee is delighted that they are able to plant some of the trees on CCC’s Jerome Ave. Campus. To help maintain a uniform appearance, Linda Brim of Brim’s Farm & Garden has generously donated the other two trees to fill additional tree wells. Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution. ADA accessible. |
