Hollywood Filmmaking Seminar Comes to Astoria

On Saturday, March 20, Hollywood movie director M.Z. Silverman, a longtime veteran of the entertainment business as a producer, director, and writer, will be in Astoria to present a workshop/class and a showing of his latest film, “Memphis Rising: Elvis Returns”. This is a drama with music and comedy that purports to answer the question, “what really happened to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll?” The answer: he was borrowed by aliens for thirty years, who have returned him to earth none the worse for wear. This creates a situation that causes Elvis to become involved with “a beautiful government agent”, “the mob”, “the cops”, and “more beautiful girls”. He even attempts an under-the-radar comeback by entering an Elvis impersonator’s contest in Las Vegas.

Silverman will address his perspectives on the movie industry and film business, the “ins and outs” of filmmaking, what goes on behind the scenes, and different aspects of making a film. There will also be a question and answer session after the movie.

The seminar will begin at 11:00 a.m., with the movie, “Memphis Rising”, starting at 3:00 p.m. The presentation will be at the Clatsop Community College Performing Arts Center in Astoria, and is sponsored by CCC Arts & Ideas, in partnership with Education for Life. The cost to attend both the seminar and the film is $20; to watch only the movie is $5. To register, call 503-338-2411, 503-338-2438, or 503-738-3346. The PAC is ADA accessible.
