New Student Orientation Helps To Smooth Transition For First-time CCC Students

Clatsop Community College (CCC) recently held its New Student Orientation at their Astoria campus with 119 first-time CCC students in attendance.

“Starting college and continuing one’s education is an exciting time,” Joanne Swenson, CCC Student Success Coordinator, said. “It is also often a stressful time filled with confusion and frustration. The goal of our New Student Orientation is to make the transition to college as easy and comfortable as possible for all of our students.”

During the event, students met Vice President of Instruction Stephen Schoonmaker, Dean of Student Services Roger Friesen, the College faculty and the Associated Student Government leaders. The students were introduced to the College’s computer system, the Learning Resource Center, and the tutoring lab. The day’s events culminated with a barbecue catered by A Taste of Heaven and served by CCC employees. Many area businesses contributed prizes for the students

Ms. Swenson adds, “Clatsop really is a college for the entire community. I hope that this fall term kickoff event helps our new students to experience the camaraderie that exists at CCC and begin to find their niche here.”
