Clatsop Community College Turns 50!

Clatsop Community College turns 50 this year and, as the oldest community college in Oregon, is proud to share the occasion with the public. The College will hold an Open House on Saturday, October 11th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and everyone is invited! Visitors will get a chance to engage in many activities, win door prizes, and learn more about their community college as they unravel the clues of a crime scene, make their own pot in the ceramics studio, have fun with chemistry, watch a welding demonstration, help diagnose “Sim Man’s” symptoms and much, much more. A free BBQ will begin at 11:00 a.m.

CCC’s main campus includes buildings which were initially home to Astoria High School CCC’s founders regarded the buildings as a valuable asset to the community and envisioned it as a great place to provide students the opportunity to follow their educational pursuits. Today, that vision is the same. After years of planning and the combined efforts of CCC employees, Board members, legislators and community members, CCC is taking a giant leap forward in redeveloping the campus for future generations of students. At 1:00 p.m, the Jerome Campus Redevelopment Project will officially kick off with a groundbreaking ceremony.

Campus parking is restricted during the event, so the College offers visitors a ride from four Park & Ride locations: Columbia River Maritime Museum, Astoria Aquatics Center, CCC’s Performing Arts Center and the “old” Lum’s Auto Dealership at 17th and Exchange. Buses will run between these locations and the campus beginning at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Open House at CCC is not only an exciting chance for former students to visit their old stomping grounds but it’s an entertaining family experience great for all ages. This event is free and open to the public.

Former CCC students and employees are also invited to attend an alumni reception on Friday, October 10th, at “The Loft”, located at 20 Basin Street in Astoria. The Reception is hosted by CCC Foundation who invites former and current employees to gather at The Loft at 5:30 p.m. and former students to join in beginning at 7:00 p.m.

We are proud of CCC’s strong history in public education and we are excited about the future of our community college. We hope you’ll join us. Success starts here!
