From: Caitlin Wright Clatsop Community College Clatsop Community College Students, Faculty And Staff Ride “The Bus” For Free! Starting December 1st, 2008 Clatsop Community College (CCC) students, faculty, and staff will be able ride the Sunset Empire Transportation (The Bus) for free! As a registered student, you can ride anywhere in the county that the bus services on any day that it runs and at any time (even when the College is closed). This is an opportunity for CCC students to save $60 each term and CCC faculty and staff to save $45 a month CCC and the Sunset Empire Transportation District have entered into a partnership to provide free transportation to the students and employees of the College. The trial program will run the duration of the CCC 2009 Winter and Spring Terms. “The College is thrilled to be able to offer this service to our students and employees. Not only will this help alleviate an economic concern and fit with our campus-wide green initiative, it provides a no-cost and convenient solution for the parking issues that will exist during Phase I of the Jerome Campus Redevelopment Project,” says Roger Friesen, Dean of Student Services at CCC. Phase I of the Jerome Campus Redevelopment Project has already begun and parking at the college will soon be limited. Using the bus as a means of transportation to and from the College will be a substantial way to maintain efficiency while ensuring that students and employees are able to get to campus in a timely and convenient manner. “The Sunset Empire Transportation has gone to such a great extent to be flexible and are focused on ensuring their routes meet the College’s needs,” Friesen continues. “They have truly tried to offer services that support the College, its students and its employees and we are very grateful.” To ride for free, a student needs to be enrolled and have made payment arrangements with the Registrar’s Office for the 2009 Winter Term. The Registrar’s office will issue a voucher that the student may redeem at the CCC library for a one-term bus sticker. The sticker needs to be affixed to their student i.d.—the only piece of identification needed to ride for free during the term. If a student does not have a CCC i.d., they may obtain one for no-charge at the College library. The student must have their bus sticker reissued each term to be eligible to ride the bus for free. CCC Faculty and Staff need only their CCC i.d. to ride for free. Bus routes will be posted at a variety of locations on campus as well as available in the CCC Student Services Center (located at 1653 Jerome Ave. in Astoria, OR) For information regarding the program, contact Sarah Knippa at 503-338-2402.
