Clatsop Community College Clatsop Community College And The Healing Circle Unite To Raise Funds For VOCA Program In Clatsop County In an effort to fight child abuse, Clatsop Community College (CCC) and The Healing Circle have partnered to provide an annual camp for child survivors of sexual abuse. This program is known as Victory Over Child Abuse (VOCA), one of many programs offered through The Healing Circle. The VOCA program depends on continued financial support, volunteers, and donations. Various fundraisers are held throughout the year to raise the financial support needed. The first fundraiser of what Margaret Frimoth, Lives in Transition Coordinator at CCC and VOCA supporter, likes to refer to as “VOCA Season” began last weekend. A Caring Quilt Show opened on Sunday, April 27th, 2008 at The Blue Scorcher Bakery (located at 1439 Duane St.) in Astoria, OR (located at 1439 Duane St.). Handmade quilts by local artist, David Benett, are on display for sale. A Caring Quilt Show will run from Sunday, April 27th until Sunday, May 4th. On Sunday, there will be a special celebratory event held at The Blue Scorcher Café from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. After this, remaining quilts will be auctioned off. The funds raised from sale and auction of the quilts helps to provide financial support for the program. Ms. Frimoth is aware that camp costs for each attendee can be fairly expensive for a single donator. Therefore, she encourages people to unite together as groups to support the cause. “VOCA Camp is a community response to child sexual abuse. I'd love to see groups of like-minded people getting together to share to cost of camp scholarships. It is a way for more community members to embrace the idea of safety and healing. VOCA children are our children. Together, we can work to make a positive difference in their lives,” says Ms. Frimoth.
