Shattered Stained-glass Window at CCC Performing Arts Center Will Benefit From 3rd Annual "Romancing the PAC" Concert and Violin Workshop

Clatsop Community College Arts & Ideas and the CCC Foundation proudly present the 3rd annual "Romancing the PAC," an evening of exquisite music with internationally acclaimed composer and violin virtuoso Kim Angelis on Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the CCC Performing Arts Center, 16th & Franklin, Astoria. (Please note: this is a change in date from the pre-scheduled Feb. 3rd performance).  Proceeds from the event will help to repair the PAC's stained glass window damaged in December's memorable storm.

A Paganini Caprice piece is on the program, as well as some favorites like "The Astoria Waltz" and "The Joseph Partita”. Ms. Angelis will also debut her composition "Jordan's Dance," inspired by a little girl with spinal bifida who danced at one of Ms. Angelis' concerts.  In addition to a revival of some numbers that have been absent from previous programs, the audience will also experience the guitar musing of Josef Gault.

As a special addition to the concert, Ms. Angelis will conduct a violin workshop on February 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the PAC. Violinists of all ages and levels are welcome to attend.

The music of Kim Angelis has been heard on Network TV, PBS, NPR, and in the award-winning documentary film, Saviors of the Forest. She majored in music at the University of California, Irvine. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, the violinist met and later married guitarist Josef Gault, who introduced her to World Music. "Josef really broadened my outlook," she enthuses. "One hundred years ago music was confined to the areas in which it developed. But today, with modern recording and the Internet, we are able to listen to music from every different culture. I like to collect the sonic images evoked, and write a new 'Gypsy chamber music'."

Mr. Gault, "The Wild Hungarian", is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a major in industrial arts and a minor in music. He has enjoyed two successful careers, but since 1994 he has devoted himself to music. Currently, Mr. Gault is a part-time host of the very popular "All Kinds of Folk" radio program on KMUN/KTCB, Astoria, Oregon. He is also the Technical Production Manager at Clatsop Community College. Additionally, Mr. Gault fronts the acclaimed bluegrass band, Saddle Mountain Station, as the lead singer.

To quote Becky Hanson of the Metaline Review (Metaline Falls, WA), "Kim Angelis, concert violinist and composer, bubbled with vibrant enthusiasm, heels clicking, dazzling golden skirt twirling and swaying...there was Josef, seated while flawlessly accompanying his soul-mate wife on the guitar...there was absolutely no hint of hesitation as all present responded with a heart-felt standing ovation!"

All proceeds from the concert and preceding violin workshop will be donated towards repairing the storm-damaged stained glass window at the PAC. During the Advent Storm of 2007, the center section of the outstanding stained-glass window on the West side of the PAC was blown out. The shards were collected and are being saved to use in its reconstruction. However, not all of the glass recovered is salvageable. The College is attempting to locate a detailed photo of the window prior to the damage as a guide for the repair project. The CCC Performing Arts Center is a valuable community resource with stupendous acoustics for this kind of performance.  The CCC Foundation appreciates the generosity and support of Kim Angelis, Josef Gault and the Astoria community.

Concert tickets will be: $15 general admission, $10 students and seniors. The cost to attend the violin workshop is $10 per participant. Visit CCC's website at www.clatsopcc.edu/arts&ideas for the Arts & Ideas calendar or www.skysong.com for more information on Kim Angelis.
