Increased Funding Of The Oregon Opportunity Grant Provides More Free Money For Clatsop Community College Students!

Funding for the Oregon Opportunity Grant, Oregon’s major need-based financial aid program, has recently doubled. This means that more funding is available for Clatsop Community College students! The increase will support larger grants to more students, including part-time students, enrolling in fall 2008.  Federal Grants provide money that a student does not need to pay back. Maximum grant awards have doubled on average, and some who were not eligible for help before will now receive aid.

Tamara Henderson, executive director of the Oregon Student Association, says, "This truly opens doors to students across the state who previously had limited options to afford college. The increased grant aid will allow low to moderate income students to focus and succeed in college, with reduced stress levels, reduced demand to work many hours or multiple jobs while in school, and less student loan debt."

To apply: complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.ed.gov or you may call 1-800-4FEDAID to obtain a paper copy. If you submit a FAFSA you will be automatically considered for an Oregon Opportunity Grant. The FAFSA can be submitted anytime in order to learn about state and federal aid for which you may be eligible; however, many grants and scholarships that also use the FAFSA have January or February priority deadlines, so now is a key time to submit the application.

For more information about the Oregon Opportunity Grant and additional financial aid opportunities available at Clatsop Community College, contact Sharon Boring, Director of Financial Assistance, at (503) 338-2412. Financial aid information can also be obtained at www.clatsopcc.edu and at www.GetCollegeFunds.org

Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution.
