CCC Sponsors Toy Drive To Brighten The Holiday Season For Local Head Start Children
Recently, the Clatsop Community College Associated Student Government and CCC Bible Club sponsored a toy drive for Clatsop County Head Start kids.
Three festive trees, adorned with the hand-decorated gold star ornaments of participating Head Start children, were displayed in the CCC Student Services Center and in the Taste of Heaven cafeteria seating area throughout November. Each star represented a child with their age and gender listed. The gold stars were taken and replaced with toys of all shapes and sizes reflecting the information listed on each individual star.
The annual “Head Start Stars” toy drive provides gifts to more than 100 children between the ages of three and five who attend Clatsop County Head Start programs.
“The outpouring of gifts was amazing,” says Tammy Lambert, CCC Student Services Assistant and the CCC Bible Club advisor. “We had people that heard about the project come in from the community and from across the river that wanted to participate. Students and staff would come to my desk and ask if there were any more stars still available. I know last year the ASG ended up purchasing many gifts that would have gone unfilled, but not this year. The trees were overflowing! It was such a blessing to see the response from not just the campus community, but the community as a whole. I think that people know that times are hard for everyone and if you open up an opportunity for people to help each other, those that can do. The children will be given the gifts at the Head Start Christmas party next week.”
